Mahatma Gandhi is the father of the Indian nation. But beyond that his thoughts of non-violence and brotherhood and sisterhood of human beings wherever they are has influenced the world. There is a lot of Christ and Christianity in Mahatma Gandhi: “Lead me kindly light” The Christian song influenced Mahatma Gandhi very much. Cardinal Newman was Mahatma’s guru while he was in England. The association of Universal love promoted by Cardinal Newman is also active in Kerala and India. I was glad that I was the secretary of the Newman Association and Father Adappur, the theologian who also supported my broad view on religion. I had occasion to visit Europe as secretary of the Newman Association in India and visit places like Hungary, France, Switzerland and other places.
